The Developer's Sixth Sense

Call it what you will. Call it experience. Call it a sense of timing. Call it sixth sense. But it seems to be built into many developers.

It's that moment when you run some code that compiles but is going to throw a runtime exception... and you know it. Maybe it's that pause. Maybe it's the undermind, just having caught up with the code you've wrote and has realised that it's going to break.

You know what I mean.

That instant *before* the error dialog pops up. Before the yellow screen of death appears.

Longhorn != .Net

For some reason, maybe it was the blogs I read, maybe I heard it somewhere, but I was certain that Longhorn was being built on top of .Net

Turns out this is wrong:

I'm not so sure how important this is though. As an application developer, the fact that the framework is there, along with the new plumbing like Indigo and Avalon is enough for me... but maybe I should be bemoaning the loss of possibilities?
