John Lennon wins...

Although that actual fight is a lot harder to decide, googlefight gives the following:

Which is kind of difficult for me, as I think that Paul was behind so much of what made the Beatles so listenable - he's a master of melody, writes some great lyrics, and knows how to structure some of the best hooks I've ever heard.

Maybe, just maybe though, the real answer lies in the combination of talent.

Any one have any other opinions?
